As a Parent Governor of Shelton Junior School I am Chair of Governors and Chair of Strategic Development Committee. My daughter attends the school and my son has recently moved on to secondary. I became a governor because I wanted to know more about how the school was led and how school priorities are evaluated and monitored. Ultimately as a mum, I wanted to know that the children were getting a good education and to see how I could help support the school.
Personally I have worked in education for since 2004 at both secondary and primary level. I have experience as a Data Manager and also as a School Business Manager. The knowledge I have within my working role supports me in being an effective governor, able to support and challenge the school, for the benefit of the pupils.
Volunteering as a governor is both rewarding and demanding alongside a full time job, however I enjoy the role, especially when I get to spend time with the children in school. Education plays a major part in the lives of all our children, giving them the tools to achieve their full potential. I believe that being a parent governor is a way for me to represent the views of the community, including the pupils, parents, and staff to ensure we all play our part in developing bright futures for our children.
