We have recently been working with 2 STEM ambassadors from Rolls Royce who have been delivering some amazing sessions to a group of children and their families after school on a Friday. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and the ambassadors aim to inspire young people to enjoy these subjects and maybe follow a career using involving them in the future (maybe even working for Rolls Royce!)
The sessions have all been based around building and racing different types of cars to fit in with the 'Bloodhound' theme. The Bloodhound is a car that is sponsored by rolls Royce and they also built the engine for it. The aim is to set a new land speed record of 1000mph!!!
Our cars didn't quite go that fast but we enjoyed learning how to use lots of different equipment such as hacksaws and glue guns. We also had to make axles and chasis for our cars out of wood and KNEX. In the final session we raced our rocket cars which amazed us when they zoomed across the playground!!
Take a look at some of the photos.
All about the Bloodhound car and it's attempt at setting a new land speed record of 1000mph!
